You just have to love a day where there’s no class, and you discover a new album. This gives you the combo of fresh sounds and time to pick them apart.
Today’s find was The Grand Pecking Order by Oysterhead, originally released in 2001. The group is what I would call a “super trio,” a deserved title considering the members are; Stewart Copeland–drummer, best known for his work with the Police; Trey Anastasio–guitarist, with many a Phish album under his belt, as well as some great solo work; and Les Claypool–bassist of Primus fame, and leader of a slew of projects including C2B3 and Frog Brigade.
In short, this may be the best trio I’ve heard. Period. No disrespect to the Jimi Hendrix Experience or Cream, but these guys have something different. Maybe their instruments are on acid, I don’t know. What I do know is that it’s very upsetting that this is the only album released by this group. I want more, and I want it now!
