Not much to say at the moment.  I’m not at all tired, and I have to get up early and make a road trip tomorrow.  So, to occupy my time, I’ve read some news stories online.  Here’s a taste of what’s going on in the world:

Cholesterol worries in grade school? Apparently, a group of doctors with a bit of clout are recommending that young kids be given cholesterol meds to help prevent heart-related issues.  (MSNBC via AP)

Taking a Peek in Bejing:  NBC is going to use the Olympic Games to do marketing research.  This one doesn’t come as a surprise.

Wimbledon:  I don’t know why, but this excited me.  I’m not really a big tennis fan, but every so often, something random grabs my eye.

There was also something somewhere stating that the orangutan population is decreasing at an alarming rate, that it could possibly be the first of the great apes to go extinct.  I can’t remember where, though.  Google it and check it out for yourself.

Brain Soup

June 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I’ve been having a writing problem lately.  Actually, I’ve been having a task problem.  I can’t seem to get anything done, no matter how much I want to.  I forget, I put off, I think of something else that needs doing.  I just can’t seem to get the motivation to do anything.  Its because I’m distracted.  I know I’m distracted because I’ve been reading–a lot.  Not that I don’t read a good amount anyway, but when I read as much as I’ve been reading lately, I’m either trying to get through a series, or something’s on my brain.

I want to organize my room, but it doesn’t seem worth it.  I’m going to move out in less than a month anyway.  My time would be better spent packing things now, so I can organize them once I get to my new place.  The idea is to organize as I move things over; in other words, I would set up my first load of stuff in my room before I would bring my second.  It sounds smart.  I hope it is.

Sorry for a pointless post.  I just wanted my brain to work for a little bit.  I think it needs more exercise than it currently gets.

I’ll Miss George Carlin

June 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Shit, piss, cunt, fuck, cocksucker, motherfucker and tits.  Those, my friends, are the Seven Dirty Words You Can’t Say on Television, as organized by the late, great George Carlin.  I heard about his “terminal episode” last night after I got home from work.  I cried a bit.  Ever since my parents introduced me to his work with the incredible “Carlin at Carnegie,” I idolized him.  It would be safe to say that George Carlin is the main reason I love words so much–especially the “dirty ones.”

I don’t know what to type.  I just know that the world lost someone honest.  He was a grand master of wordplay and observational comedy, and will be sorely missed.  Joe bless you, George.

A quick update for those who read:

I landed a job at EDS in Winchester, KY.  I should be starting on the 19th of this month, so go me.  I believe I go in that afternoon to discuss benefits, orientation, and other things of that nature.  It’s a full-time position with potential for advancement.  I’ll be doing tech support at first, but I believe there may be editing positions available–that would be solid.  The fact that I’ll have to commute to Winchester and back is upsetting, considering the rapid rise of gas prices recently–word to the wise, be prepared for $4 by Memorial Day–but it’s a job, and it will allow me to save and pay bills, so I’m excited.

I’m just now checking out the MUSE CD/DVD HAARP.  I’m liking it.  I’ve also been told to check out UFO, that will come this week.

I wish there were more substance here.  The stress of graduation has kept me from doing anything besides focus on the immediate and imminent: job, money, etc.  Now, though, I’ll have more time to ramble and stumble.

Do yourself a favor:  Google “Bowman 2.”  You won’t regret it.

Hillbilly Hiatus

I’ll start by apologizing for the unusually long break in posting.  I went back home to Pikeville, KY for the weekend, where I don’t have an Internet connection (I view this as a good thing–sometimes, I need a break from the Internet).

Every year during the third weekend in April, Pikeville is host to a festival called Hillbilly Days.  I know, some of you are laughing at the name, but it’s really a great time.  Over-priced yet great-tasting food, carnival rides and games, lots of live music, and the ability to walk through downtown and see everyone you’ve not seen since, well, last year.  Sure, it’s hell to find parking (that’s where it comes in handy to be familiar with the nooks and crannies) but if you ask me–and if you’re reading this, you’re at least curious–there’s no better time to be in Pikeville than when the Bluegrass Cannonball is making its rounds (and when funnel cakes are abundant).

I wish I could have taken pictures, but I didn’t remember my camera.  Maybe next year.

They’re Gonna Make Me Give Up My Toys-R-Us Card, Aren’t They?

Graduation invites came in the mail today.  Seeing the date in print made it seem real.  It’s really funny, though.  I can remember going out to eat after graduating from the eighth grade.  I can remember lightly tossing my cap instead of madly throwing it at my high school graduation.  Makes me wonder what the college scene is like.  I’ll make sure to let you know.

If anyone’s listening, I’m wondering which Hunter S. Thompson book to read after I finish Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail ‘72.  Any suggestions would be more than welcome.

Not much of a post today.  That’s a result of no sleep and too much work.  More in store soon.
